Denis Cheryshev: Real Madrid kicked out of Copa del Rey after fielding ineligible player

Real Madrid have been thrown out of the Copa Del Rey for fielding an eligible player. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (Real Federación Española de Fútbol, RFEF) have upheld a complaint lodged by Spanish side Cadiz after Russian winger Denis Cheryshev featured in the recent cup match at the Ramon de Carranza stadium.

Cheryshev picked up three yellow cards while on loan at Villarreal last season and should have served a one-match suspension when the two sides met in their round of 32 match on 1 December.
Real Madrid overlooked this, however, and the winger was named in the match day squad, coming off the bench and even scoring a goal during the 3-1 win.
Francisco Rubio Sanchez, the competition committee chief at the RFEF, has since ruled in favour of the Segunda B side, ending Los Blancos' run in the competition, AS report.
Real Madrid plan to appeal the decision with club president Florentino Perez insisting on 3 December the club should face no punishment, as they were not notified of Cheryshev's suspension.
"The ban should not take effect because the player was not personally notified, and even if he was, which in our view was not the case, we also believe that it was wiped out," Perez said in a statement. "In summary, Real Madrid did not field an ineligible player. That is our opinion after analysing the situation with the club's legal services".
