Manchester United: Louis van Gaal and Danny Blind pleased with Memphis Depay improvement

Netherlands manager Danny Blind is pleased with the improvement made by Manchester United winger Memphis Depay after consulting his club manager Louis van Gaal.

After an impressive start to life at Old Trafford, which included an excellent brace against Club Brugge in August, Depay's performance levels suffered a dramatic drop. As a result, the winger was originally left out of the most recent Netherlands squad, although a string of injuries eventually led to Blind calling him up.

It was during that period where the Netherlands boss aired his concerns over the 21-year-old.
"I think Depay is a player for the future," Blind said, as quoted by Daily Mail. "But there are other issues to look at. Perhaps Louis van Gaal has also said something. In football you must function in a team. He doesn't always do that. I have also told him when I called him to say he's not in there. That's something he has to learn."
Depay struggled to hold onto his spot in the United first-team during that period, but has returned to the fold in recent weeks, starting three of the club's last five games.
Blind has also been impressed with the youngster's response. "I spoke to Van Gaal about how Memphis was responding at United during his downturn, Louis was really positive. I myself have also had good conversations with Memphis," he told Dutch magazine Voetbal International.
Blind also added that Dutch veterans Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben had also spoken to the United starlet. "Sneijder and Robben have spoken to him about certain issues. That is good, then it is not only coaches [who are speaking to him]."
