Samsung to shut down camera and camcorder business in the UK

Samsung has finally decided to shut down its camera and camcorder business in the UK owing to declining sales amid falling demand for these products across Europe. The surprising decision comes in the aftermath of rising rumours that Samsung is planning to close its camera division.

Although Samsung had earlier put down all such claims, Tech Radar has exclusively obtained an official statement wherein Samsung UK confirms the closure of sales and marketing units for the camera division in the UK. Those who invested in Samsung's mirrorless NX-series seem to be the worst-affected as the company has withdrawn all further development plans for professional-grade lenses.
However, consumers can look for alternatives in the mirrorless camera segment with Sony's A7 series and other Samsung rivals in the DSLR market, such as Panasonic and Olympic.
Here is what Samsung had to say regarding its massive decision to quit camera business in the UK:
"In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products.
"We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In the UK, we have seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras and camcorders and related accessories. For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products. This is a local decision, based on local market conditions."
Samsung's future in the camera business looks bleak, considering recent rumours that suggest the possibility of shutting down its entire camera division in Europe owing to sustained decline in demand for Samsung's standalone digital cameras and camcorders.
