‘Attacks on CBN gov uncalled for’



A PRO-DEMOCRACY group, Patriots for Democracy for All, PDA, has faulted the alleged smear campaign targeted at Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, saying the sponsored media attacks are aimed at inciting the public against the CBN governor. CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele In a statement by the group’s National President, Obinna Chukwuemeka-Kalu, the PDA faulted the call for Emefiele’s removal, noting that “Emefiele’s job is a tenured one that has three more years to expire.
” The group wondered “when Nigerians would get out of these primordial sentiments that are always counter-productive and anti-progress,” pointing out that, “if Emefiele’s expertise has earned him that office, it is because politics is reward based in an environment where ability and competence are prerequisite for appointment.” Besides, it said “anybody who is opposed to the good work this financial expert of our time is doing is anti-people and an enemy of progress.” While stating that the current forex situation in the country is mainly as a result the sharp fall in the global oil prices by about 65 per cent and not peculiar to the country alone, the group lauded the CBN under Emefiele for applying the correct response to tackle the aftermath crisis. The PDA argued that nobody should be aversed to criticism that is constructive, adding that, “those who appear to be after Emefiele’s job never accused him of fraud, stealing, embezzlement or misappropriation of fund. “Emefiele should be left alone to continue to chart further course for the country’s financial and economic recovery,”

Musa Gowon: Son of former ruler Yakubu Gowon to return to Nigeria after 22 years in US prison

The son of former Nigerian military head of state Yakubu Gowon is due to return to Nigeria after spending 22 years in a US prison after being convicted on drug-related charges. It is believed Musa Gowon was released from the Taft Correctional Facility Bakersfield, California, after US President Barack Obama granted him pardon earlier in November.
