Prince Charles has been sharing his passion for gardening with Prince George. The Prince of Wales recently revealed that his grandson had been helping him to plant some trees at Highgrove.
Charles told BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time that the two-year-old has helped to dig in "a tree or two"at his Gloucestershire home and he is keen to foster a love of gardening in the young royal. "You never know, do you, what people are going to be interested in," explained the Prince. "The most important thing is I got him planting a tree or two here, so we planted it together and shovelled in the earth. That's the way I think, when you are very small, and then each time they come you say, 'Do you see how much the tree has grown?', or whatever, and you hope that they take an interest."
The Prince has even redesigned some of his gardens with his grandchildren in mind, making them more child-friendly, with his gardens at Dumfries House revamped to include a maze.
"In Scotland and here (Highgrove) I have tried to design it with what would appeal to a child; it is the paths and the interests. I have tried to do that at Dumfries House as well," he explained. "We have made a maze now up there which is rather fun, and I adored a maze when I was young.You just put yourself in the child's position and sometimes it works."
Prince Charles' love for gardening also started at a young age when he helped his grandmother, The Queen Mother, tend to the grounds at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. "I always like gardening - I hate to say this - from a child's point of view. It's a funny thing, because I have such happy memories of bits of garden at my grandmother's house," the 67-year-old said.
The green-fingered royal said that gardening has been a "marvelous therapeutic business. You get reward from it but you can also be driven mad by it."
Prince George recently posed with his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, along with his sister Princess Charlotte for the Queen's special birthday photo taken by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz. Kate Middleton was said to have also taken a few pictures for the family's personal album.
According to People magazine, the new family photo featuring her royal highness, the future King and possibly the future queen of England will be unveiled on 21 April – the Queen's birthday.
