Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update seeded to Verizon users in US

Samsung has started seeding the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to Verizon users of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the US. The update also brings along Google's April security patch, making it one of the first devices to receive the latest patch.

The software release — version MMB29K.G920VVRU4CPC2 for the S6 and version MMB29K.G925VVRU4CPC2 for the S6 Edge — will include a bunch of new features like improved Google Now and longer-lasting battery, thanks to the doze mode.
Verizon also listed some improvements with the update, notably bug fixes:
  • Wi-Fi Calling improvements, including backing up call logs to Verizon Cloud
  • More seamless transition from Wi-Fi to network coverage while using mobile data, including on Network Extenders
  • MirrorLink is now supported on more vehicles
  • Go90 app is now pre-loaded on your device
Along with the regular Marshmallow update features Samsung had introduced in March, the unique customisation for the Edge screen can be accessed by the Galaxy S6 Edge users as well. Users can now customise up to nine panels, including the People edge, Apps edge and the Tasks edge panels.
Samsung had announced the roll-out of the Marshmallow update for the Galaxy S6 in February with other US carriers like Sprint receiving the update in March. The company till now has seeded the Marsmallow update to various Galaxy devices like the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 5 and Note 4.
The roll-out will take place in phases, so only a few may have got the OTA update till now. To manually check for updates, head to Settings > About phone > Software updates and hit Check for updates.
